We are a Reconciling Ministry

In 2013, several members of RUMC came together around the issue of what it means to be “accepting and inclusive”. As a result of those conversations, they brought a request to the church. Their desire was to see RUMC's relationship with the LGBTQ community transformed: to move from passive acceptance to radical welcome. In 2015, with much prayer, research, conversation, education, and deliberation, the church voted to affirm this attitude of radical welcome and became a proud member of the Reconciling Ministries Network (RMN). The RMN is an organization of United Methodist churches that have affirmed a common commitment to reconciliation which, as the RMN states,

"leads to the healing and transformation of animosity into honest relationships that respect all God’s children. Reconciliation is a profound ongoing individual and collective commitment from all those affected to establishing new relationships embedded in mutual recognition."

In March of 2017, we hosted a Gender Diversity forum, giving members of the congregation and wider community an opportunity to hear parents of trans youth share their journeys & experiences.

  • 2016 Seattle Pride Parade

We were honored to join with other United Methodist churches to march in the Seattle Pride Parade in June, 2016!
