This fall, you are invited to journey through the wisdom of “Rest is Resistance” by Tricia Hersey, founder of The Nap Ministry. This powerful book will be woven into our congregational life as we explore the sacredness of rest and its role in our spiritual formation.
Hersey’s work is a prophetic call to reclaim rest as a form of resistance against systems of oppression and exhaustion. She writes from the intersection of theology, justice, and embodied healing, reminding us that rest is not a luxury—it is a divine right and a spiritual practice. Rooted in womanist theology and Black liberation thought, “Rest is Resistance” invites us to slow down, listen deeply, and reconnect with the God who calls us to wholeness.
As a community committed to radical love, we believe that rest is vital to our faith. It is in rest that we remember we are beloved, not because of what we produce but because of who we are. This fall season, we will reflect on how rest can shape our life together – how it can renew our spirits, deepen our relationships, and ground our ministries in grace.
Copies of the book are available to borrow from the church library in the Education Building. We encourage you to begin reading now – there’s plenty of time to engage with the book before our special gathering!
