Justice Ministries

Social Justice Ministries at Redmond UMC emphasizes the importance of both justice and mercy ministries. Our justice ministries work through organizing and education to transform the systems we are in. Our mercy ministries work to meet the immediate needs of those in our community.

LGBTQ+ Advocacy

We believe in the full inclusion of all of God’s beloved children. Redmond UMC has partnered with Reconciling Ministries Network to work for and organize towards a church that is a witness to God’s all-encompassing love.

Redmond UMC is a joyous and welcoming presence at Seattle Pride along with other local UMC churches.

If you would like to march at the 2022 Seattle Pride Parade, contact Pastor Yvonne at pastor@redmondumc.org

Redmond UMC strives to be an anti-racist and inter-culturally competent congregation. This means that we are always learning with and from folks in our congregation and community who have been marginalized and oppressed. We are a congregation striving to build awareness around racial inequalities through our worship and our church leadership.

New City Church is located in the South Minneapolis neighborhood where George Floyd was murdered by a police officer. In response to Mr. Floyd’s death, and the subsequent uprising that came to Minneapolis, New City is launching the Solidarity Campaign. This campaign will send money to three strategic areas of healing for their neighborhood.

  • Local organizations that we have verified are doing hands-on work on the frontline with a bias toward black-led organizations.
  • Microloans that support individuals in the New City facing economic hardship. We will, again, prioritize black community members, as well as other people of color, queer people, undocumented people, etc.
  • New City Church, as we continue to expand our anti-racism programming. Over the past three years, New City’s antiracism and community organizer training has informed other churches, denominations, and universities.

New City is a multiracial church that is less than three years old. We are led mostly by queer people of color. Please donate generously today.

Be aware of the burden placed on people of color when trying to unpack or understand this discomfort with them.
If you’re white, find other white people interested in anti-racist work to begin this discussion.

Call out the injustice. Be ready to receive feedback and adjust based on the wisdom of people of color.
