During the month of September, the Re-imagining Committee will be presenting our initial findings for congregational input. Below is a summary of our findings.
Problem Statement
Our committee has identified multiple issues facing the church and its buildings in the next 50 years, including:
- Fire risk as electrical infrastructure ages
- Insurance costs increase with building age
- Occupancy restrictions limit leasing potential
- Ministries constrained by inflexible spaces
- Missed opportunities for community engagement
Goals
We identified goals for our space going forward, rooted in the mission of “Love, Serve, Grow.” We commit to these goals with discernment – a recognition that faithful listening to God and community means being willing to revise.
- Love: Exude rest, safety and belonging for church members and the larger Redmond community
- Love: Feel distinct and recognizable – stands out as Redmond UMC
- Serve: Connected & integrated with the larger Redmond community
- Serve: Flexible to support many space use options, with a “can-do” attitude
- Grow: Financially solvent and supportive of future growth
Options
The first step we’re taking is evaluating different scope levels to determine what best meets our building goals and addresses issues.
- Continuing operating in our existing spaces
- Rennovate the Education Building, maintaining the existing shell/structure
- Replace the Education Building (and/or Chapel)
- Redevelop the Education Building/Chapel, plan for future Sanctuary replacement
- Redevelop the entire site
