Sanctuary/narthex refurb faq for worship

The Sanctuary/Narthex Refurb project is happening! Over the next few months, we anticipate that the improvements are going to be a great blessing to our church and to the greater Redmond community. And the process of seeing it come together will be a blessing, too!

As we undergo the refurb, we will be relocating worship from the Sanctuary to the Chapel from April to June 2024. As we do, the Worship Team wanted to offer some encouragement:

  • Remember that worshipping in an unfamiliar place can often be a good thing. It leads us to remember what is at the heart of why we gather at all.
  • Remember that worshipping in an unfamiliar place can be challenging for all. IF there are any accommodations that may help you in worship, please let us know. At the same time, consider how you might be able to help others. Volunteer as a coffee server, an usher, or even as a friendly face offering greetings and opening doors.
  • Remember that worshipping in an unfamiliar place is only temporary. Soon, we will be back to old and new routines in the refurbished sanctuary. In the meantime, notice how much of how we worship stays the same. We gather around God's Word, take part in the sacraments, and encourage each other.

In the meantime, please see below questions and answers that may help make the transition to worshipping in the Chapel a bit easier. If you have additional questions that are not asked below, please contact the Church Office.

  • For the duration of the Sanctuary/Narthex Refurb scheduled from April-June 2024.

Our first worship service in the Chapel will be on April 7, 2024.

  • You can enter the Education Building using the Breezeway or the front steps on 80th St.

Please note: Only the contractors and Project Managers will have access to the Sanctuary/Narthex during the refurb. Open Kitchen will still serve meals in Galley Hall.

  • The RUMC parking lot will still be available to use! You will notice there will be a POD storage container parked in the parking lot to function as storage throughout the project. We will still have access to overflow parking next door in the Medical Building and across the street at Old Redmond Schoolhouse.

  • Although worship may look different in the Chapel, it will feel familiar! We will use similar liturgy, hymns, and prayers. Music will be accompanied by Tom on the piano, Scott on the guitar, and Caitlin, Catlyn, and Jason singing.

We will still have Children's Sermons during worship and the Nursery will also continue to be open.

Pastor Yvonne, liturgists, and scripture readers will use microphones in order to be heard clearly.

  • The entire service will be printed in the bulletin each week. We will also print a few large-print bulletins. We will not use projected presentations in the Chapel. Bibles and hymnals will be available for anyone who wishes to use them.

  • No. During the Sanctuary/Narthex Refurb, we will not be livestreaming the worship service. Due to the complexity of setting up the equipment, the Worship Team has opted to not livestream while we are worshipping in the Chapel.

However, each week, Pastor Yvonne will record her sermon along with the Scripture readings and prayers and post it on our website and YouTube page. We will try to have the sermon uploaded by Sunday mornings, but we appreciate your patience if it takes us a little bit longer.

  • Yes, Coffee Hour will continue! Coffee will be served in the Swan Room after the worship service. If you would like to volunteer to help make and serve the coffee, please contact the church office.

  • There are currently 70 seats in the Chapel. In addition, we will also have additional seating available.

If needed, the Swan Room will be available for overflow seating just like how the congregation worshipped before the "new building" was built!

  • Starting April 7 when we begin worshipping in the Chapel, we will continue having one worship service at 10am on Sundays. However, as we live into this new routine, the Worship Team will reassess and discuss if additional worship times are needed for the duration of the refurb project.

Our 10 am Worship Service features a mix of traditional hymns

and contemporary praise songs along with creative preaching and liturgy.

Come exactly as you are, no matter where you are in your faith journey.

Redmond UMC is a community that welcomes you.
