A year in the life

Below is a rough outline of the many major events that make up a year in the life of RUMC!

There are always new events being added to our calendar.

  • congregations for the homeless | January

CFH hosts a year-round Men's Shelter for single men on the Eastside who have been accepted into their program. CFH provides guests with access to many services and resources. For many years, RUMC has been hosting this shelter for a month at a time.

  • Women's Retreat | February

The Women's Retreat is a fun and restful time for women to devote to personal spiritual growth and to truly connect with one another.

  • LEnt (& Holy Week)

Once our Ash Wednesday Service starts the season, we often offer special studies, a devotional, and even week night worship services. Holy Week includes a Palm Sunday Service (featuring Eco Palms) as well as Maundy Thursday and Good Friday services.

  • EAster Sunday

We celebrate Easter Sunday with a 6:30am Sunrise Service at Idylwood Beach Park, a 10am Easter Service, an Easter Egg Hunt after the service for the kids, and a 4:30pm Community Easter Dinner downstairs in the Fellowship Hall!

  • FLute Concert | Spring

We are always pleased to host a concert by the Seattle Flute Society! The free-will offering supports missions at RUMC.

  • Camp Sunday | May

Camp Sunday is a camping-themed worship service that celebrates all the UMC camping and retreat opportunities. RUMC members are encouraged to hang on to their spare change throughout the year to give to the "noisy offering" that helps send kids to camp!

  • Chili Cook-Off | May

At our Chili-Cook Off & Dessert Auction, attendees sample the contenders and it is put a vote. Categories include such favorites as "Meatiest", "Most Vegetarian", and "Overall Best". And let's not forget the desserts! Proceeds support RUMC Youth Missions.

  • pride month | June

"All people are created in the image of God

and as beloved children of God's love and grace."

As a Reconciling Ministry, we celebrate Pride Month with a variety of fun and educational events!

  • summer lunch program | June - August

For many families, the end of the school year means the end of a consistent source of nutrition for school-aged children. RUMC and Open Kitchen partnered with Hopelink, the City of Redmond, and Nourishing Network to bridge that gap throughout the summer.

  • Derby Days | July

We see Derby Days as a chance to celebrate with the community, to introduce others to our vision and mission, and to have a blast doing it! We have even held food drives along the parade route and are grateful to the community for its engagement and generosity!

  • Guatemala Habitat for Humanity Trip | July

For years, several RUMC members have traveled to Guatemala to serve with Habitat for Humanity's Global Village Volunteer Program. They've brought their love for the mission back to the congregation, and we now send a small contingent on the annual trip!

  • end-of-Summer Picnic | August

Probably a highlight of our annual potluck schedule, the End-of-Summer Picnic at Anderson Park is a pleasant time in the sun (or under the gazebo) with good food and great fellowship!

  • Blessing of the animals | september

Pets are such a blessing to us! At this special, casual service, you are invited to bring your pets (on leash or in carriers) to worship for a special Blessing of the Animals downstairs in the Fellowship Hall.

  • Emergency Winter Shelter | October - December

EWS is a ministry of The Sophia Way & Catholic Community Services that provides women and families with a meal and a safe and warm place to sleep during the cold winter months. RUMC is one of the churches that hosts this emergency, low-barrier shelter.

  • Fall Retreat | October

Our annual All-Church Retreat at beautiful Camp Indianola is always a special time to recharge and connect as a congregation, as well as to take advantage of the fun activities available!

  • Thanksgiving Potluck &

    Stewardship Celebration | November

Held the Sunday before Thanksgiving, this event combines food and reflection. Our Stewardship Chairperson helps us recognize (with a spirit of gratitude) all that we were able to accomplish in the last year.

  • Advent (the season leading up to Christmas)

Advent is one of our busiest seasons... chock full of concerts and other fun holiday events, we also make sure to provide studies, chapel hours, and a devotional as opportunities to slow down, reflect, and anticipate the joy of Christmas and all that it represents!

  • Redmond Lights | December

We always look forward to the beginning of December when Redmond holds their annual Redmond Lights event. At this interfaith celebration, we encourage you to walk the Luminary Path from City Hall to Town Center (where you'll find our activity booth)!

  • Christmas Eve Services

Each year, we have a Child-Oriented Christmas Eve Service (which is engaging and delightful for all) as well as a beautiful Traditional Candlelight Service.
